    My Journey

    When I started my Thyroid healing journey back to optimal wellness and feeling great again, I needed major help in the fitness department. I researched many things online, and I did find a ton of different workouts I enjoyed and could do in my own home that worked. I work all the time, so I wanted fast, effective, and fun. I also get bored quickly with workouts, and I absolutely LOVED throwing some variety in there.

    I was and still, do strength training/weight lifting at least 5 days a week. I needed just a bit more, and not heavy cardio. That is where I stumbled across HIIT Workouts. I was like, what the flip is a HIIT? lol. I quickly did my research and found my absolute favorite thing to do 3-4 times a week. HIIT Training lead me to Tabata Workouts, and I never looked back! GOT TABATA?

    HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training. Who knew the original HIIT workouts were first called TABATA. The style was developed by Japanese professor Dr. Izumi Tabata. He trained Olympic speed skaters and came up with the HIIT by following this system: 20 seconds of super intense work and 10 seconds rest. Repeat for 8 rounds.

    Use the example of Squat Jumps. 4 minutes total. Go as hard as you can for the 20 seconds, getting your heart rate up, and then rest for 10 seconds immediately after. The super-short rest intervals force your body to keep going before it recovers from the previous set.

    To reap the full benefits, you have to GO HARD! They are both super important, so do BOTH perfectly! You will see how everything changes after that. Your energy will shoot through the roof,  your mindset and attitude will change to focus and happy mode and your toned physique will put you in a place for SUCCESS!

    Benefits of Tabata

    There are many benefits of trying a Tabata or HIIT Workout and sticking with it long term. Benefits include much improved cardiovascular health, increased metabolism, increased calorie burn, fat loss, lower blood pressure, and overall muscle mass.  Hey, I get it. You are MY Girl, working your butt off every single day, either at your corporate career or with your kicking new Entrepreneur Life. Who has time for this? Hey, guess what? YOU DO. You have time to Scroll? You have 4 minutes for a Killer Tabata Workout!     Tip #1

     

    Warm up.

    Warm up for 10 minutes before you start a Tabata workout. If you work out regularly, you know this already. ALWAYS warm up, get those muscles warm and blood flowing properly so you are ready for an intense workout. It also will protect you from any fractures or injuries if you are not used to doing the 20/10 intervals. Short, but intense. And as I mentioned already, SUPER EFFECTIVE. You are going to absolutely love Tabata workouts! Warm up your body by doing a few pushups, squats, or full body stretches.


     

    Tip #2

     

    Use a Timer.

    Use a Timer when you do any Tabata or HIIT workout. There are great Timer apps out there, and my personal favorite is the Seconds Interval Timer HIIT App. It is super easy to use, and set all your Tabata workouts YOUR way. Your iPhone App Store is the easiest place to find, but any quality timer will do for the workouts, and many exist for your Samsung and Android devices as well. There are tons of apps out there for this specifically. Check it, and 98% of them are FREE!


     

    Tip #3

     

    All Fitness Levels Welcome.

    You don’t have to be an expert. Tabata workouts can be modified for any fitness level. Interval workouts will greatly improve your fitness on the aerobic and anaerobic levels no matter what level you fall into. It is glorious! Do not worry if you are a beginner or newbie. That is the absolute best place for you to be! All Pros Athletes and Superstar Fitness Gurus all started in the same place. That is the fun part. There are so many things to learn with Tabata Workouts, and you can literally tailor a billion different workout plans and customize down to the T on your body type, endurance level, health concerns, weights or no weights, and how long you want to go based on how fast you can burn fat and calories.


     

    Tip #4

     

    Add Weights for Fast Results.

    When it comes to HIIT and Tabata workouts, there are a few ways to complete the interval training. Using your own body weight is one of them, and you get so many benefits doing it this way to complete the sets. Can you say Super toned in a very short amount of time? Body weight exercises examples would include Jump squats, Push-ups, Burpees, or Tricep Dips. Using free weights(dumbbells), weighted vests, or ankle/wrist weights will work very nicely as well, and adding weight is huge to take Tabata workouts to the next level. Some might not get much out of the regular body weight intervals, and it depends on what works for YOUR body, but going as hard as you can during the 20 seconds makes all the difference. Still not convinced? Your answer is adding weights. The results are faster, you tone super quick, your definition shows fast depending on your nutrition program, and you feel Amazeballs! Weights for the WIN!


     

    Tip #5

     

    Go All in!

    DON’T SLOW DOWN! It is time to bring IT right here!! You need to be ALL IN during the 20 seconds of every interval exercise every single time! You will get real results this way, and FAST. You want the much talked about Afterburn Effect, right? Of course, you do!! You will not gain the cardio and strength benefits by going slower through the exercise moves. Nope. Sorry. Do you want the Gains? GO BALLS TO THE WALL. The fun part is doing the 8 rounds in 4 minutes. Use every 20 seconds to the absolute max, use the 10 seconds to recover as much as you can, and then keep going! It is over so quickly, you are left wanting more!! You can add time to the Tabata workouts, but always start with the 8 rounds, and go from there.


     

    Tip #6

     

    Breathe.

    During the 10 second rest periods, please remember to BREATHE. Catch your breath, girlfriend. It is a quick 10. Resting for even 10 seconds is crucial to finishing the intervals and getting your maximum benefits of toning, and burning TONS of fat and calories. And Do Not Stop. Keep going and finish your workout. 4 minutes will FLY!  The 20/10 protocol go together perfectly! Maximize BOTH, and you are Golden! Add in more time or exercises to your workouts as you learn.


     

    Tip #7

     

    Endless Combinations. Have Fun with it.

    When trying out different Tabata workouts try to engage in as many muscle groups as you can when completing the intervals. The beauty of it? There are endless combinations. SCORE! Boredom for me is completely gone with workouts now, and coming up with new Tabata combos to try is the absolute best! It is so much fun to put them together, and depending on your favorites, they can be tailored to your lifestyle, and coupled with another program you are currently completing. And adding in weights? Whoa! What a flipping game changer. Oh my Goodness! Once you master the 20/10 interval rules of Tabata, stepping it up with strength training will change your LIFE!!

    Conclusion and Thoughts

    So what do you think? Are Tabata workouts for you? In my opinion, you will be hooked, my friend. Especially if you are having a setback with any Thyroid deficiency right now, or in healing mode. Long Cardio sessions are a no-no, and the Tabata workouts replace that, AND you burn fat and calories long after you finish your sweat sesh! Listen to your body.     I found weight lifting again after several years of not doing anything, except an occasional bike ride or hike, and I realized how much I missed it and was actually pissed off that I stopped lifting.     After figuring out my meds didn’t work anymore, I started with more sleep, more hydration and the correct fitness. Healthy eating choices followed right behind it. Reducing toxins in my home and on my skin was also huge!⁣

    In the 3rd IGTV video with my Thyroid Hacks Series I will be discussing eliminating gluten and soy. Why is it crucial?⁣

    Both of them directly affect thyroid function. At least for ME they do. Research Gluten and Soy all you want. YOU know your own body and when it is screaming at you. You are the ONLY one that will know. ⁣

    Soy- Fermented Non-GMO Organic Soy products are alright (sometimes) but in moderation. In my opinion, I would avoid ALL Soy. Soy is in absolutely everything. Check all labels or avoid anything processed. Even skincare products can contain soy. ⁣

    Are YOU having low Energy? Are your sleep cycles off lately and you feel your adrenals are maxed out? I got you, girl. ⁣

    I have some of these things going on lately. What can it be? For me👉🏻My monthly cycle & added PMS, not eating 100% clean, and my sleep cycles are whacked out because I am up in the middle of night a lot lately with my sweet dog(and the full moon lol).⁣

    When all these things are going on at the same time, what worked for me is taking a step back and looking at the root cause of each thing, assessing, and writing down everything that I am doing and NOT doing right now. ⁣
    Tips to try👇🏻⁣
    1. Keep a Food Log for a week⁣
    2. Look at Hydration Levels ⁣
    3. Look at stress levels-what is causing the stress and why?⁣
    4. Do I move my body regularly?⁣

    Those 4 things are the most important. Then assess and flip the switch on all of them. #mindsetshift ⁣
    Make a Habits List that you can stick to and start with 1 at a time and make it a non-negotiable. ⁣

    Do you have a thyroid setback or deficiency? Do you experience fatigue? ⁣
    Not having the energy to even get up is scary. I was there. I had to work at it daily and start small. Baby steps is key.⁣

    When you workout or move your body what is your favorite? Walking? Yoga? Pilates? Lifting weights? Tai Chi? ⁣

    Those are all amazing, but do you really enjoy what you are doing? You have to love it. It isn’t something you dread everyday if you truly connect with it. ⁣

    Have you ever tried cycling? I have had a bike since I was little, and never stopped loving it. It’s fun, competitive sometimes and your energy is through the roof!⁣

    Cycling is great for weight + fat loss, daily body movement, extra vitamin D (when outdoors) and so much fun to explore both road and mountain biking. Trails, local rides, charity races... it is a blast!! I am hooked for life!!⁣

    The most fun is either bringing bikes with on a trip or renting bikes the whole time to explore. You see so much on a bike! We have taken our bikes to key west several times or rent them and ride the whole time to check out different hot spots to eat, go to the beach or just hang out locally and ride everywhere! ⁣

    What do you eat for breakfast? ⁣

    Did you know healthy fats + protein are both super awesome to start with? ⁣
    Having high fat and protein for breakfast sets you up for a successful day so you are super energized ⚡️⚡️ and shed the lbs faster!⁣

    This combo in the am also helps your thyroid and hormones from cravings and spikes in your cortisol. ⁣

    I drink a ton of h2o + lemon first thing(1 .5 liters) then green juice. Next is usually a protein shake with organic protein powder, 1/2 avocado, handful of greens, maca root powder, cacao powder, flax and L-Glutamine. Don’t forget the unsweetened coconut milk(I use water instead of coc milk days) YUM! ⁣

    There is a lot going on right now in our world and it’s truly overwhelming. All the hate, racism, prejudice and recent horrifying events that took place with George Floyd (may he Rest In Peace) blew me away. It is absolutely unacceptable and should not be tolerated. ⁣

    I know we don’t have all the answers and might not know what to do, but I do know this👇🏻⁣

    We need to do better now. We need to stop. We need to listen. We need to own our shit that we have no F clue how this feels. We need to educate ourselves. We need to be there. Period.⁣
